Devil’s Backbone Brewery – Kilt Flasher (7.8%) * * * * *
Style: Scottish Ale
Roseland, Virginia
Poured into a tulip glass, the Kilt Flasher resembled the porter I had just consumed, but with more lacing from the head and just a bit more ruby in the color. I could only hope it would have the same quality, which I quickly found out would not be an issue.
The aroma swirling inside the glass was of a Scotch with hops. A smooth, buttery texture with delicious flavors of Scotch, caramel, and hops. Perfectly balanced and complex. A Scotch tape finish like the aroma of Christmas gifts with a wee bit of bitterness from the hops. No real heat from the higher percentage of alcohol, which made this dangerous to enjoy. A malty kilt in a Belgian glass.
(When and Where? Enjoyed during the winter months down the road from the ski lodge at the brewery.)
